Warframe Release Date for Xbox One Announced

Last year, free-to-play cooperative multiplayer shooter Warframe was released on the PlayStation 4 and PC to somewhat tepid reviews, and after several months of improvements, developer Digital Extremes is ready to release the game on the Xbox One on September 2 2014.

The announcement was made at an hour-long panel at Gamescom in the form of a trailer filled with flashing lights, gunfire, and orchestral music.

The Xbox One version of Warframe will include SmartGlass functionality, which allows real-time information such as critical mission alerts, codex, and gameplay stats to one’s smartphone or tablet during gameplay.

The game will also include support for Game DVR, which allows players to record their proudest triumphs (or most embarrassing failures, if they prefer) and share them with friends and foes alike.

Warframe‘s concept is similar to Mass Effect 3‘s multiplayer. Gameplay takes place from an over the shoulder third person perspective, in which four players work together to accomplish a variety of tasks. These include murdering high value targets, extracting data from terminals, wiping out large enemy forces, defending artifacts, and so on.

Players are able to customize their battlesuits, more appropriately called Warframes, with different weapons and upgrades that are earned by leveling up. Being free-to-play, the game also allows for the purchasing of new equipment with both in-game and real-world money.

Despite its lukewarm critical response, Warframe has attracted a sizable following, especially on the PC, where it holds an 8.1 User Score on Metacritic (a score higher than The Elder Scrolls Online) as opposed to its 66 Critic Score.
