Warframe Gets Two More Expansions, Will be Released for the Nintendo Switch

TennoCon 2018 took place yesterday on July 7 with a plethora of Warframe fans swarming into the London Convention Centre at London Ontario, Canada.  Since it began in 2016, TennoCon has become the must watch event in regards to the series.  The most recent one was no exception, as Digital Extremes made some big announcements for Warframe, with the biggest one being that the game will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch.

You can check out the announcement trailer here:

The Switch version will be handled by Panic Button, who is known for their excellent ports to the console with acclaimed titles such as Doom, Rocket League, and Wolfenstein.  Warframe was released on the PC in 2013 before being ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014.  The game started out slowly as Digital Extremes was still attempting to iron out the kinks to the online free-to-play video game.  However, as they added more content each month, the player base grew, as well as the respect for the developers in the community, and now it is one of the most successful F2P games on the market.  Their was no date for the Nintendo Switch version, but it’s more than likely that it will release later this year.

The other major announcements included a brand new faction called The Solaris United, a group of cyborgs who, according to Digital Extremes, “dwell in the Blade Runner-esque Debt-Internment Colony, Fortuna.”  The Solaris United faction will be part of a new expansion, called Fortuna, which will take place in an open-world environment on Venus.  The Fortuna Expansion has a tentative release for 2018.

In addition, Digital Extremes announced yet another expansion, this one titled Codename:Railjack, and this one may be the biggest yet.  Revealed along side an eleven minute gameplay video, Warframe is taking the battles from the ground and launching players into the stars, with spaceship combat now being introduced.   This also includes managing the ships shields, firing weapons, and maintaining the hull. Fans will have to wait a while for this one, as the expansion is planned for a 2019 release.

Warframe has no signs of slowing down, with Digital Extremes constantly updating the game every chance they get, as well as producing some excellent expansions to keep the players satiated.  A lot of F2P games fail due to a lack of content, however, Warframe shows that the model can work as long as the game is supported enough, and if the fans keep on coming back for more.  The fact that they have their own convention, TennoCon, is a prime example of the system continuing to be a success.
