War for the Planet of the Apes Will Release a Game With the Movie

Yesterday at the New York Comic-Con, actor Andy Serkis talked at a panel discussion for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming title to their blockbuster series, War for the Planet of the Apes. In the panel Serkis talked about the movie and gave little hints about what’s to come, but one interesting things he noted to fans was that the movie will also be accompanied by a video game.

According to Gaemspot
, Serkis did not reveal too much about what the game’s specifics- possibly because he isn’t allowed to under contract – but he did mention that he has been working to perform motion capture for the game. Although Serkis remained tight-lipped in the War of the Planet of the Apes’ post-panel interview, he also revealed that the game will be coming to consoles. At the New York Comic-Con panel, Serkis told Gamespot that:

I don’t think it’s ever been done before. We created it at the Imaginarium, which is my studio. Without giving too much away about it, it’s not like a first-person shooter. It feels like an interactive movie. And that’s all I can say other than that it will be coming out around the same time as the movie. It’s a companion piece, it’s not based on the characters from the movie.

This statement might be very vague and we don’t get any definitive information about the game, but video game companion pieces aren’t a rarity to the gaming industry. Last year Mad Max released its own game, following the summer hit Fury Road, and Star Wars rebooted their Battlefront game a month before its December release.

Serkis is a great and established actor, and he is no stranger to the video game industry either. In the past, he’s worked with DmC Devil May Cry developer Ninja Theory on motion capture and he also did some voice work in Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. He’s also voiced several characters in games like Risen and Volume, and he’s set to feature as a voice actor in the upcoming space adventure, Star Citizen.

War for the Planet of the Apes comes to theaters next summer on July 14, 2017. It’s directed by Matt Reeves who previously directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield. Below is the teaser for the upcoming film, which was released during the New York Comic-Con. If the game is anything like the rebooted series of the Planet of the Apes, gamers can expect a promising game.

Ramiro Gomez: Sci Fi junkie, flim fanatic, book nerd, and (on a good day) a decent gamer.
