Voice Actor Claims New Mortal Kombat Title Being Developed

The newest entry in the long running and beloved Mortal Kombat franchise may be on the horizon. First reported by Game Informer, that new entry may in fact be Mortal Kombat XI. The news comes from a pair of tweets made by Spanish language voice actor José Eduardo Garza Escudero.

It appears Escudero was tapped by the Spanish language localization company Pink Noise Studios to voice the characters Kung Lao and Reptile in the new title. When translated, Escudero specifically states that the company decided to “remove my characters” from what he says is Mortal Kombat XI. However, in a follow up tweet,  Escudero backtracked on the idea that the new title is actually Mortal Kombat XI by stating, “I do not know if it is MKXI, Mk 10.5, MKXYZ or whatever.” Also, it appears that Pink Noise just decided to part ways with Escudero, so the characters may still appear in whatever this new Mortal Kombat title is.

Mortal Kombat XI has not been officially hinted at nor announced by either the series’ developers NetherRealm Studios or their parent company Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. NetherRealm Studios, headed by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, has been the developer of the series since Warner Bros acquired the franchise IP after the series’ original developer and publisher Midway shut down in 2009.  Since then, NetherRealms Studios has released 2011’s series reboot Mortal Kombat, though still considered the ninth main title in the series, and 2015’s Mortal Kombat X. The studio has alternated between Mortal Kombat titles and DC Comics-based fighting series Injustice since its inception. The studio’s last game released was last year’s Injustice 2, thus many assume that Mortal Kombat XI would be their next major release. It may only be a matter of time before fans know more on if Mortal Kombat XI actually exists thanks to this news.
