Vince Zampella Says He Wants Titanfall 3 to Happen, But Studio Has “No Exact Dedicated Plans for That”

Without a doubt, one of the most asked-about and requested newest entries is from the Titanfall franchise. The sequels, or lack of them, have caused the fan base to lose hope in ever seeing another title in their beloved first-person shooter, but if everyone thinks that Respawn Entertainment CEO and President Vince Zampella has forgotten about it, then they’re very mistaken. Zampella spoke with Barron’s recently and stated that he very much wants Titanfall 3 to happen, but also mentions that the studio has “no exact dedicated plans for that.”

Zampella added that while he absolutely wants a new entry in the series, it wouldn’t feel right unless it was done correctly. “It has to be the right thing. It’s such a beloved franchise for the fans and also for us. If it is not the right moment in time, the right idea, then it just doesn’t make sense,” he said. Zampella goes onto say that he would want to differentiate it from the Apex Legends universe, which ironically takes place within the same era as Titanfall. Zampella says that if they were to introduce something new it could potentially “confuse” Titanfall fans, meaning that if a new Titanfall would ever come out, there would be a very large correlation between the former and Apex Legends.

This idea is not as far-fetched as one might think. For a while, Respawn was working on a single-player experience set within the aforementioned universe with the codename Titanfall Legends, or TFL as some people called it. Unfortunately, the project was canceled earlier this year, and all 50 developers who were working on it were either placed on other projects or laid off. With the team focusing on the just-released Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and the continuous support of the extremely popular Apex Legends, it’s not hard to see why the studio has more or less put their first-ever IP aside for the time being. Still, the love for Titanfall is very much alive, and hopefully, EA and Respawn find an opportunity to reintroduce the franchise to the video game world.
