Victoria 3 Revealed at PDXCon

Earlier today Paradox Interactive, a video game publisher located in Sweden, held a virtual convention called PDXCon Remixed in place of their traditional in-person annual conventions. There were a number of exciting things announced, but perhaps none more so than confirmation that a new game in the Victoria series would be coming nearly 11 years after its predecessor, Victoria 2.

For those unfamiliar with the Victoria series, players will see themselves being given control of a country for one hundred years during the colonial era in the 19th century. It is up to them to figure out how they want to rule and must balance their citizens’ political awareness, social class, and more in order to prevent a revolt from happening.

The announcement trailer is purely cinematic and does not give much information away about the next game in the series. However, we can expect Victoria 3 to have the same core gameplay as the other Victoria games. Namely, there will be a strong focus on the Economy, Politics, and Internal Country Management. The developers in their Dev Diary, have noted that they want Victoria 3 to be a ‘Society Sim’ where the main aspect of the gameplay is about the internal workings of a government in the 19th century. As this is a country simulator, there is of course the option to go to war, however, “everything that is achievable by war should also be achievable through diplomacy.”

Unfortunately, there is no time frame set for when we might see Victoria 3 being released. Until then if you are interested, you can subscribe to the newsletter on Victoria 3’s website where you will receive a special in-game item.
