Venom Voice Actor Tony Todd Says Spider-Man 2 Features Only 10% of His Recorded Dialogue

Tony Todd, who plays Venom in Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, has told fans that only 10% of the dialogue that he recorded was used in the final game, which has fueled speculation regarding a spinoff or DLC revolving around the character.

Speaking at a panel at Fan Expo San Francisco 2023 with Miles Morales voice actor Nadji Jeter, Todd suggested that some of his voice work may be saved for the future, according to Evan Filarca, a fan who attended the event.

Todd also referenced a cut plotline that featured Miles Morales with the symbiote, suggesting that the original plan for the game had both him and Peter Parker encountering Venom at different points.

These comments have sparked fan speculation that these voice lines were recorded for potential DLC for the game, or for an entirely new Venom-based spinoff.

2018’s Spider-Man featured three waves of DLC under the banner of Marvel’s Spider-Man: The City That Never Sleeps, which included three pieces of content: The HeistTurf Wars, and Silver Lining. With the success of Spider-Man 2, it seems likely that Insomniac will capitalize with expansions.

A spinoff that is specifically about Venom is also within the realm of possibility, as Senior Narrative Director Jon Paquette said that they would see how fans responded to the character when asked about a potential spinoff. It would not be the first time that Insomniac released an interquel between the main games, as 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales works to bridge the gap between games and introduce Miles as his own hero.

A glitch found in Spider-Man 2 had previously allowed players to use Venom in free roam, but it was removed in the latest patch for the game, as it had the potential to corrupt saves. As no official announcement has been made for DLC or a spinoff, it remains to be seen as to whether or not Venom will be playable in a greater capacity going forward.
