Valheim Breaks its Own Concurrent Player Record Just Three Weeks into Early Access

Valheim has broken another concurrent player record this weekend. The co-op Viking survival game launched on Steam on February 2nd and had already hit one million players with peak of 361,281 concurrent players. Now, just days later, the game has surpassed its own record. Less than three weeks into early access and Valheim has been purchased by over 3 million players.

According to SteamCharts, the Viking game has an all-time peak of 498,478 concurrent players. The title from developer Iron Gate is now the third most played game on Steam after Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. To top it all off, it’s currently the 7th most streamed game on Twitch. In blog post on Steam, the Iron Gate team was more than happy with the news, saying they “wanted to share one more big thank you to everyone who has already joined us on this exciting journey of mythological proportions.”

In an interview with PC Gamer, Iron gate co-founder Henriik Tornqvis gave more details on DLC details for Valheim. The first planned update, Hearth and Home will focus on the house building features of the game.

“It will probably be pretty focused on the food preparation aspect of the game with more recipes and stuff like that,” he continued. “But there are also new additional building pieces.”

The following update Cult of the Wolf will focus on combat and “some new fun and different encounters for the players.” Next is Ships and Sea that will welcome more colorful ship customizations. Last on the roadmap is Mistlands which will add a new biome for Vikings to explore and plunder, Tornqvis saying “it will be new enemies, new items, a new boss, new resources, everything, and that’s what we have planned for this year.”

With Valheim only three weeks into early access and the overwhelming amount of upcoming content, it won’t be surprising to see the number of concurrent players continue to rise. The game is available to purchase now on Steam for $19.99.
