Upcoming Marvel Games Won’t Be Held Down by Marvel Cinematic Universe

Now based off the title some of you may be saying to yourselves “I am Groot” and you would indeed be justified in saying something so harsh. But after hearing what Marvel Games Creative Director Bill Rosemann had to say when speaking with IGN at the DICE awards, it doesn’t sound as bad as you’d think.

Wile at the DICE awards, IGN was able to have a sit down with Rosemann and find out just what was in store for the upcoming Marvels games in production. He expressed that they wanted to be able to give their developers the freedom they deserved to create their own story while still holding characters true to themselves. The games people can be expecting to come out first include Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and lastly The Avengers.

“We want to give our partners…freedom to look at all of Marvel history and to pick from what interests them. It’s a bit like we’re saying, ‘Hey you’re the chef, you’re going to make this meal. Here’s all of the ingredients. You pick the ingredients that you like and make a new meal.”

But does this decision actually make sense? ComicBook.com made a fair assessment in that unlike movies that are available on digital platforms for cheap, games need to be purchased for a much higher price. So having games with separate stories from one another is smart in that most people who don’t like Spider-Man won’t buy it.

Later on when taking with IGN, Rosemann pointed out that the game developers would not be paying any attention to when Movies would be coming out. Instead of rushing to get games done or putting out games that aren’t complete so they arrive at the same time, they would take there time. “We’re also not going to try to do the very tricky balancing act of trying to make a game that adapts a movie and get it out in the same window as the movie.”

As of now, the only game available to pre order is the Playstation exclusive Spider-Man, however, the game won’t be released for quite some time.
