Flight School Studio is back with another picturesque game, with a similar look to their 2019 title, Creature in the Well. Their new game, named Stonefly was announced earlier this year and recently the story behind the protagonist and the inhabitants of the world were explained more in detail in a new YouTube video.
In the game, players will play as Annika Stonefly as she attempts to recover a lost family heirloom and reunite with her father using her mech-like transportation. There will be a multitude of bugs, creatures, plants, and more and she travels trying to find the heirloom. But even with these hostile encounters, the game is described as having “chill and tranquil action-adventure gameplay” with the wind as the central element. There are multiple biomes to explore like canopies, marches, briars, and more filled with larger-than-life plants towering over the bug-sized mech. Also, as players explore these locations, they can collect different materials for the mech to give it new abilities to suit different gameplay types and make it more powerful. Throughout the game, there are many characters to interact with mainly from a group called the Acorn Corps, which is a squad of other mech pilots. Overall, according to Stonefly’s creative director, they are “going for something that feels like Rogue One shrunk down to FernGully size, written as a coming-of-age story.” The new trailer, as seen below, gives a more detailed looked into the mech’s design and usage within the game.
Stonefly is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, sometime in the summer of 2021. Until then, Stonefly is able to be added to your wishlist on Steam, and check out the developer’s other titles like Creature in the Well while you are there.
