With E3 returning as an in-person event, many in the video game community were wondering if one of the industry’s biggest events would return to the spectacle it was before. However, reports earlier this year say that the big three, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft will not be part of E3 this year. One of the biggest third-party publishers, Ubisoft said that they would be part of this year’s E3. During the company’s recent conference call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that they will be there “if” E3 happens. During the call, Guillemot also talked about why Ubisoft canceled and delayed several games earlier this year.
Ubisoft was asked specifically if they would “attend in person and show your games.” Guillemot responded with “if E3 happens, we will be there and we will have a lot of things to show.” Nintendo is skipping E3 due to a lack of big games according to reports. Xbox announced and has confirmed plans for a summer showcase.
Following the cancelations and delays, Ubisoft is focused on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Mobile, Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, The Crew Motorfest, and Skull & Bones. Talking about why they canceled and delayed a lot of their games was because they were making too many at once. “We cancelled a few games because we needed to make space for other games that are in development in the company, and that’s really helping all the other games that are progressing well,” Guillemot said. “Now we feel we have the right number of games, knowing that we will launch a lot of games in financial year ’24 that will also give space for the other games that are on the way in the company.”
Guillemot added “If we look at 24 months, the number of games in the company in work in the company will go down quite a lot, and that will give more space to all the games we have on the way. Having said that, we know that many of those games are also going to have post-launch content, and this will take a certain number of teams and talents to actually create that content.”
