Today, Ubisoft shared the release date and new gameplay features for The Settlers, a new take on the franchise led by original creator Volker Wertich. The Settlers brings back the best, modernized elements from the previous titles and combines them with new gameplay features and systems. The Settlers will release on PC in 2020.
One of the new features of The Settlers is that it can be played in both PvE and PvP. Three modes are featured in the game: Campaign, Skirmish, and Multiplayer. The Settlers uses Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine which was developed by those who worked on The Division series. The engine will allow the game to use a new procedural map generation technology of landscapes and missions which will bring players an authentic sense of discovery, exploration, and uniqueness. Another new feature coming to The Settlers are three alternative methods of victory which include the combat strategy, the glory strategy, and the faith strategy. The combat strategy means that players would control full armies of different units, taking on and defeating enemy armies to take over or defend their territory. Special units like the army leader could have positive effects on their troops. The glory strategy means that players would select a hero character who will fight in the arena against the enemy. Once a player initiates a battle, spectators representing both sides will gather at the arena to watch the battle. Winning a fight can lead to dissatisfaction among the defeated party which can lead to revolts which would allow the player to take over the enemy territory. The faith strategy allows players to inspire faith amongst Settlers.
The Settlers is available for pre-order now at the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store. The game will also be available on Uplay+, Ubisoft’s subscription service. There are 4 editions available to pre-order. The Settlers Standard Edition comes with the base game. The Settlers Gold Edition allows access to the game three days early as well as the first expansion “Monuments & Merchants and two decoration items, the Gazebo of Tranquility and the Wishing Well. The Settlers Entdecker Edition is a unique physical pack only available in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Poland. It comes with the Gazebo of Tranquility, three lithographs illustrating the Settlers heroes’ adventures, and an original selected soundtrack. The Settlers Collector’s Edition available in Germany, Switzerland and Austria offers access to the game three days early, expansion one, physical items, and a Numbered Collector’s Box, an Artbook, the two decoration items, three litographs, a letter from the creator Volker Wertich, flower seeds, and the original selected soundtrack. An exclusive decorative Statue of the First Settlers which can be placed in any of your settlements will also be included if you pre-order the game.
