Ubisoft has announced that it’s bringing an overhauled update to their PC client, Ubisoft Connect. The update announced directly from the Ubisoft website introduces some new social features, along with a refreshed UI design, and much more. Many of the new features were provided through feedback from the Ubisoft community, as Creative Director Charles Huteau stated,
“We took the time to really digest all the feedback that we received in the last years about the desktop app. The new app is focused on accessibility, ease of access, and making sure that it’s clear to the user how to find what they are looking for. We know from user feedback that revamping the library is the most important piece of the puzzle.”
The game library which has been updated with horizontal framed box art, now provides more information, such as game progress and any pending updates. There are also new social features, to help players find friends and other players with better ease. There are also new streaming options for players, offering them access to see what other friends are playing, and the option to join.
While the features seem scant, the improvements primarily within the client’s software will help provide a smoother experience for years to come. Currently, the update will be arriving in a beta version starting today and will roll out in an official launch later this summer.
Formerly known as Uplay, the Ubisoft Connect PC client was first released in 2012, to sell their first-party games and provide direct updates through. While it works in similar functionality to Steam and Epic Games, it hosts only the small library of their titles. For those who purchased a Ubisoft title through another storefront such as Steam or Epic, users are required to thus download the Ubisoft Connect app to install any game.
