In a blog post this morning, Ubisoft announced they have no plans to release a new title in the Assassin’s Creed franchise this year.
Titled “A Message from the Assassin’s Creed Team” (which sounds too much like a goodbye!), the developers praised the launch of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and the cast & crew of the new Assassin’s Creed movie, set to launch in December of this year.
The post mentioned how “surreal and exciting” it is for the development team to “walk the real-world halls of Abstergo” and see the “intricate replicas of Assassin weaponry.”
In the blog, the developers have decided to “step back and [re-examine] the Assassin’s Creed franchise.”
As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.
As we previously reported, the new Assassin’s Creed game was delayed until 2017, which was rumored to be titled Empire and take place in Egypt.
The developers have promised there will be more to share on all of the above, and thanked their millions of fans for their continued support.
This year, Ubisoft has released Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, and has upcoming releases Tom Clancy’s The Division and Far Cry Primal waiting in the pipeline.
