Announced by both mainstream, big name, multi-title developers Ubisoft as well as Ourpalm–a developer located in China, creating famous games such as Hungry Shark World and Hungry Shark Revolution, which Ubisoft has been known to lend them a helping hand on time and time again–through recent press release, there will be an Assasin’s Creed MMORPG in the very near future.
However, this won’t be on the PC, nor the Playstation, nor the Xbox, as many of Ubisoft’s games have been in the past. No, this one will be strictly for the mobile phone. And while the Ubisoft cash-baby series, Assassin’s Creed, is no stranger to smartphone gaming, this will mark the series’ very first massive multiplayer online role playing game made for smartphone purchase.
Also, a fine distinction Ubisoft points out in the press release, it appears the developers are passing on the baton (at least for this game) as it will be less as a one-on-one partnership, and more of a “handing-over-the-rights” situation. The established collaboration is meant to “reinforce the partnership” between both companies, and not be a mere passing of the baton–as their Montreal division will apparently also be helping, in part, in the game development process.
Meanwhile, the game is (for now) only slated/announced for a Chinese release and market. Fans should keep in mind, however, that it is still extremely early on–while the game is indeed in early development, there is more than an ample amount of time for developers to announce releases/translations for other regions and countries. (Cough, if not a mod or two, maybe?)
Ubisoft has, in te past, been no stranger to both mobile and multiplayer online games. Assasin’s Creed Unity, released back in 2014, was an online multiplayer game set in the same dog-eat-dog action/adventure game (minus a large portion of the telltale role-playing element, because online games tend to water that down a tad). There is also their title made exclusively for mobile phones, Assasin’s Creed Identity, which has gone over fairly well with players and critics. While it was initially released free-to-play exclusively in New Zealand and Australia, it is now available worldwide (for a price, sorry non-Kiwis and non-Aussies).
