The upcoming narrative game from DONTNOD Entertainment, Twin Mirror, will be released on December 1st. The news was confirmed in a new gameplay trailer posted to the french game studio’s YouTube channel. The video revealed quite a bit about the investigation mechanics, as well as the mystery narrative.
In the video, Sam Higgs, the main character, attempts to discover what happened at the scene of a car crash. You can hear him narrate his quest to find the facts, as clues and items pop up for the player to document and interact with. Sam does this by accessing his Mind Palace, a place where he can express himself freely, and recreate past events. The player is able to choose which variables to add into these events, as shown in a scene where players can choose which obstacle caused the crash in a visual recreation. Unfortunately, he escapes into the Mind Palace become more and more toxic, which is when his Double comes into play.
During the trailer, Sam remarks that things aren’t adding up as he uses his abilities to investigate. It ends as he walks directly into a mirror before the scene hastily switches to him being awoken by an alarm clock. This is a nod to his Double, which is a representation of himself more emphatic and social who he relies on for guidance. The story began when Sam returned to his childhood town of Basswood for his best friend Nick’s funeral. Things change when it becomes apparent that this small West Virginian town holds many secrets that Sam wishes to uncover with the help of his Mind Palace and Double.
The game will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 1st. The digital PC version will be exclusive to the Epic Games store for one year. For more on Twin Mirror, follow the game’s social accounts.
