Turtle Rock Studios Developing New First-Person Shooter Game

Turtle Rock Studios, most notably known for being a part of the development of the popular first-person shooters such as Left 4 Dead and Evolve, is now working on a new first-person shooter title. The new game will be a AAA IP title and will be published by Perfect World Entertainment, which is known for its free-to-play game Star Trek Online, Polygon reports.

Co-founder of Turtle Rock Studios, Phil Robb, told GamesIndustry that they’re currently working on this new triple A tile for a new franchise which will see an all-new universe:

We are developing a new franchise set in an all-new universe that leverages the style of gameplay our community loves and expects from Turtle Rock Studios. We’re focusing on what we do best — heart-pounding, moment-to-moment, online, co-op FPS action.

However, Phil didn’t give more information about the game other than details about it being a first-person shooter and it having a strong dark fantasy element to it.

Turtle Rock Studios previously worked on the popular game, Left 4 Dead, which came out back in 2008. The game proved to be ahead of its time, rising in popularity even before The Walking Dead brought a zombie craze to the entertainment industry. The game was a bit different for its time, having players play alongside each other in a co-op shooter mode instead of pitting players against one another. The studio then went on to release Evolve, also a first-person shooter where players play in an asymmetrical multiplayer structure – four as hunters one as a monster – where they battle each other in an alien planet.

Perfect World will be partnering up with Turtle Rock Studios. They’re known for their Star Trek online game:

With Perfect World as our partner, we will always make sure that our players come first by listening to them and growing the game based on how they play and interact over what we hope are many years to come.

President of Turtle Rock, Steve Goldstein, doesn’t want to label the new game a “successor” to any of their previous titles. Steve believes that attributing this new title to any of the previous Turtle Rock fps is only setting them up to have certain expectations from gamers. Believing that this label will make players want a game that doesn’t deviate from their original game’s formula. Instead, he wants an entirely new game where players can experience different that they won’t judge and classify based on preexisting expectations.

Turtle Rock ended development of Evolve back in October, citing the decision was based on publisher, 2K Games. Since then, (we think), they’ve been devoting their time on developing this new fps game. If it’s anywhere as good as their other two titles, expect the game to be a big hit.
