Transistor Releases Launch Trailer Ahead Of May 20 Release

Developer Supergiant Games, the team behind Bastion, has released a launch trailer for their indie sci-fi themed action RPG, Transistor, ahead of their launch date on May 20th, which will be on PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. Since the announcement last spring we haven’t heard anything until now and we learn that ‘finding friends might be difficult, but making enemies is easy,’ according the trailer.

In Transistor, the player will play as the protagonist Red, who is a well renowned singer in the city of Cloudbank. Though a group called the Process, which are a group of robots commanded by the group Camerata, were sent to attack Red. In the clash of this event, Red is now in front of a Transistor-like weapon that is inside of a recently-deceased man. What does he have to do with this mysterious chase and attempt to attack Red? Well you then find out the Transistor now has the consciousness and voice of this man.

The game will be Narrated by the Transistor itself (Logan Cunningham, also the voice in the game Bastion) and you will be building a relationship with the character. The video briefly introduces the pair’s “four problems”, who are the one’s on the hunt for Red.  No names just yet, but you can check out the trailer below for gameplay and more.

Supergiant’s Greg Kasavin, shreds a little light on the reason behind having Transistor be so secret until now. Speaking to the PlayStation Blog, he said: “Our feeling is that the less you know going into a game like Transistor, the more likely it is to surprise you. And we think experiencing genuine surprise is one of the rarest and most pleasurable sensations that games can provide.”

Supergiant Games has also announced that Transistor will be featuring a new game plus mode called Recursion mode, but will only be available after the player completes the main story. In Recursion Mode, the player will be able to use their level and Transistor functions from the end of the main story to experience a completely different resistance from enemies and also in different environments in the game. Almost like remixing the game, allowing the player to always get a different enemy in a different environment every time, not knowing what would be next.

Both the Soundtrack and the game are available for pre-order now on PSNSteam, and their Supergiant Games store.
