As time goes on, indie games continue to grow and push the industry to greater heights through their ideas and creativity. And one of those with an interesting premise that spins the psychological horror genre is Trainwatch, a time-management mystery-adventure game. Developed by Harvester Games, Trainwatch is the most mechanically heavy game they have created, and its horror is more nuanced, relying less on violence or jump scares. Instead, it creates an unsettling experience in a claustrophobic setting. Trainwatch will be available for PC via Steam on March 10th, 2027, and you can wishlist it now.
Trainwatch is a time-management psychological horror set in a fogbound railway crossing. You will play as Troy, a new gatekeeper at a desolate railway crossing in the middle of nowhere, desperately trying to save his marriage. Since you are a gatekeeper, you will often be memorizing the train timetable and closing and raising the gate. You’ll also have to keep an eye on your hunger meter, get enough sleep, and wash your hands after any bathroom breaks to avoid getting sick. During your time, you will experience a fog that surrounds you, attempting to pull you in. During your month-long stay, you must learn to let go, as time doesn’t wait. With multiple strangers in need of help and the fog, there will be many reasons to leave. You cannot chase every lead, keep every promise, and make every day perfect. Decide what matters now, what can be missed, and what kind of man Troy becomes when something has to give.
“It’s a more nuanced kind of horror than explicit violence and jump scares. It’s about an unsettling experience, a claustrophobic setting, and internal, human traumas,” said solo developer Rem Michalski in a press release.
Trainwatch is a slow-build psychological horror that uses time to pressure you and prompt decisions that shape Troy. If you’re a fan of games that mess with you over time, constantly try to unsettle you, and force you to make decisions, Trainwatch is the game for you. Trainwatch will be available for PC via Steam on March 10th, 2027, and you can wishlist it now.
