Toei Company has announced the launch of Toei Games, a new games business brand operating under the Toei corporate umbrella. The label will target the PC market first via Steam before expanding to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. Its first title is set to be unveiled on April 24, 2026, with Toei Games planning to launch more games within the year.
Toei Company was founded in 1951, and the launch of Toei Games coincides with the company’s 75th anniversary this year. Toei ranks among Japan’s four leading film distributors and is the majority shareholder in Toei Animation, the studio behind One Piece, Dragon Ball, Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Yu-Gi-Oh. Toei has confirmed that its initial lineup will not be based on existing Toei properties. Instead, the label will work with creators in Japan and abroad to build entirely new intellectual property from the ground up. The stated aim is to create new IP that can resonate with players globally, with games serving as the starting point.
The logo for Toei Games was designed by Kairosoft, the studio best known for its long-running lineage of pixel art simulation titles dating back to 1996. Kairosoft also produced a pixel animation version of “Waves on the Rough Shore,” the iconic crashing-waves opening sequence that has long been identified with Toei’s film releases. Kairosoft’s CEO offered a short comment on designing the logo, writing that he had been kept up at night puzzling over what kind of mark would suit a gaming industry tossed by rough waves, with the finished logo arriving alongside the spring weather.
Toei’s long-term group vision, “TOEI NEW WAVE 2033,” centers on delivering Toei’s stories to a worldwide audience, and the company has cited the new games business as a direct expression of that vision. In a statement, Toei President and CEO Fumio Yoshimura described the venture as a deliberate move into a new field, calling games a “new pillar” of the company alongside movies, television, and live events. Yoshimura pointed to games as a form of entertainment that extends beyond language and borders, and said Toei Games will draw on the technology and expertise the company has built through decades of video production to bring its entertainment sensibility to a global player base.
