There has been quite a bit of buzz circulating about a new Titanfall spinoff called Apex Legends. The game is said to be a free-to-play battle royale set within the Titanfall universe, though the Titan mechs are absent from the new game. Instead, players will assume the role of supercharged heroes with different abilities, battling it out royale-style. Even though the game has not been officially announced yet, sources say that the game could be released as early as February 4. The game is assumed to be made by the same developer, Respawn Entertainment, and published by Electronic Arts.
News surrounding Apex Legends seem to stem from Twitter, and specifically a tweet from Rod “Slasher” Breslau, “esports consultant, insider and competitive gaming leader.” Breslau continues the Twitter thread by mentioning that the game will feature an Overwatch-style loot system, 60 player server max, and teams of three players.
Sources who have played and have knowledge of the game confirm to me that Respawn is set to announce and release Apex Legends on Monday Feb 4, a free to play Titanfall Hero Battle Royale game for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

While the word of one insider usually isn’t enough to substantiate an unannounced game such as this one, Kotaku says that they have sources feeding them similar intel. The game, according to one of their sources who has played it said, “it plays like Titanfall mixed with Overwatch and Blackout from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.” With Titanfall 2 turning two years old this past October, it’ll be nice to get back into the Titanfall universe, even if there are no mechs to pummel foes with.
Apex Legends, according to the intel, is set for release on Monday, February 4 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. With the release date fast approaching, and still no announcement from Respawn or EA, one can only wonder if the game was supposed to be a surprise release that the internet characteristically spoiled, though sources say that there is a Super Bowl ad planned as a reveal.
