Titanfall Devs At Respawn Entertainment Slated To Make Next Star Wars Game

Just in time for May the 4th!

Respawn Entertainment, the team that brought us the epic, large-scale, free-running FPS Titanfall, will be partnering up with EA to collaboratively create the next big Star Wars game.

The announcement was made today via multiple sources, including EA’s official website and Respawn’s blog. According to EA staff, the game is set to be a third-person action/adventure.

Today, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe. They join our other great studios – Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, Motive and more – who are currently working on Star Wars projects.

(Obligatory pause to mourn the loss of LucasArt. RIP.)

The mysterious new game will be taken up by former director of infamous game God of War 3Stig Asmussen, who wrote an open letter addressing the announcement on Respawn Entertainment’s official blog. Asmussen expressed a deep passion for the films and world of Star Wars, maintain an air of disbelief, happiness, and humbleness the entire time.

For me, just typing these words is surreal. I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game…we promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times…Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.

Asmussen also addressed that while there may be a stigma surrounding the words “third-person action/adventure” for any video game–especially a Star Wars game–where there is nothing but abundance in that field, to the point some might start tossing around the word “generic.”

Now, I understand on the surface this might sound a bit dry, but developing a game within the ever-expanding Star Wars universe opens up so many paths for us to go down, and an unparalleled playground to design within. We have already planted the seeds by assembling a small, but incredibly talented team, ready for the amazing journey that lies ahead.

While still too early to tell, we can all hold on to a new hope for the nest installment in the world of Star Wars.
