The second season of Telltale Games’ The Wolf Among Us has officially been delayed until next year. Telltale made the announcement on its website changing the initial release window for The Wolf Among Us 2 from the “latter half of 2018”, to sometime in 2019. Based on Bill Willingham’s Fables comic book series, the first game was released as a series of five episodes from 2013 through 2014, and Telltale announced a sequel for the game back in July of 2017. The delay arose, according to Telltale’s post, “as the result of a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer.”
While the post didn’t specify what changes caused the delay, it came out at the end of last year that Telltale had laid off 90 employees, or nearly a quarter of its staff. A reduction in size that significant could very well be a factor in this delay. What Telltale offered instead was a reassurance that the studio is taking this extra time to make The Wolf Among Us 2 a quality experience, adding:
Most importantly, we’re committed to exploring new ways to tell our stories. Taking this extra time will allow us not only to focus on quality but also to experiment and iterate in order to craft something truly special.
Ultimately our goal is to deliver an experience deserving of the passion you’ve consistently shown for The Wolf Among Us, and these extra months will give us the time we need to do our best work. We’re extremely enthusiastic about how the game is progressing so far, and we can’t wait to dig even deeper.
Telltale acknowledged the prolonged wait their fans now have, writing that the developer “sincerely appreciates” players’ patience. The company plans to keep fans up to date in the meantime, and more information about The Wolf Among Us 2 will be revealed later this year.
