The Twisted Mind Behind Waluigi Reveals an Early Design for a Princess Peach Rival

The creator of Waluigi, Fumihide Aoki, has shown off an unused design for a dark double of Princess Peach in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Though the original post is no longer available, the designs can still be found elsewhere thanks to the internet. Twitter user @gosokkyu reuploaded the images, showcasing a series of sketches and a model for the character, who has been dubbed Wapeach.

The character is depicted wearing almost entirely purple, a signature color of both Wario and Waluigi, and wears a crown similar to that of Peach herself. Though she lacks the ugliness of her male counterparts, her dress has X’s cut into it and she wears a spiked bracelet similar to Bowser’s to show that she is, in fact, evil (or at least someone you wouldn’t want to play tennis with).

The design was originally created for Mario Power Tennis, according to an interview with Camelot vice president Shugo Takahashi in Nintendo Dream Web, translated by @gosokkyu. After Waluigi was approved as a doubles partner for Wario in Mario Tennis, the team pitched a similar inversion of Peach, but the idea was immediately shot down by Miyamoto.

He may be regretting that now, as the internet is a big fan of Wapeach, creating countless works of fanart based on the leaked designs. All she needs is a Wadaisy to make it into the next Mario Tennis installment.
