In just a week since launch, the SNES mini has been hacked. No, this isn’t one of those hacks that steals credit cards and personal identities, this one just lets you add more games and wallpapers to the system. So, if you’re one of the lucky owners of the SNES classic and are bummed that one of your favorite games didn’t make it on there, or want some added customization, or just have a burning desire to destroy your warranty, this might be the solution for you.
If you’re really interested in hacking your SNES classic, you can find the step by steps online. But be warned: This process isn’t as simple as making lemonade. A few wrong moves and your SNES Classic won’t be playing any games at all. Plus, the last time I checked these systems aren’t exactly easy to replace either, so be careful.
I don’t think anyone should feel that the 21 games already on there aren’t enough–Super Mario World, Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, for example, are the cream of the crop when it comes to the wonderful library of SNES games. Since I’m a purist, tampering with the SNES Classic doesn’t seem right anyways. But that’s just me.
