Publisher Thunderful Games and developer Studio Fizbin have announced that their indie roguelike title Reignbreaker will release on PC on March 18. Gematsu shares that a demo is available until March 3, on Steam Next Fest and that a special unlockable statue can be obtained in the full game just by playing the demo.
Reignbreaker takes place in a dystopian gothic Bastion. You’ll assume the role of Clef, leader of the rebel group aimed at taking down the Queen’s oppressive regime; You will battle the Queen’s medieval armament; each loss in battle allows you to equip a new javelin, or weapon that is. You’ll be able to parley and purchase new boons with coin.
Gamereactor interviewed CEO of Studio Fizbin Alexander Pieper and inquired about the weapon types and their power to break locks, Alexander Pieper shared that ““The breaking the locks thing, it’s on purpose, it’s part of the message, I can guess.
Yeah, exactly. So for us the story is, or the power of this game that we want to fulfill is, we want to empower players to be able to break the oppressive system in which the game is taking place, and this for us as a studio is very important…” He goes on to say “and also extreme class exploitation happening, and this game for us is the answer to that, the outlet to that, that we want to give the players the power to, at least in our game, fight those systems and break the locks that are oppressing them.“’
The strong emphasis in Reignbreaker is “Medievalpunk”. Developer Studio Fizbin dissatisfied with the direction of modern day politics have taken it on themselves to craft a tale to their own liking and hope that it will resonate with fans of the roguelike genre come this March.
