The Queen of Limbo, Magik’s Character Guide for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls

Arc System Works has been pumping out guides for every character in the upcoming open beta for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls that’s set to release this weekend from July 24th to the 26th, and today we have the privilege to watch the guide for the Queen of Limbo herself, the X-Men’s resident sorceress, Magik.

Looking through her tools, on a surface level Magik actually seems quite basic: a Shoryuken anti-air, a quarter circle forward fireball, and an install super to buff her attacks actually makes her compare quite a lot to an iconic Arc System Works character in Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear. But where Magik’s differs, and likely where some of her difficulty comes from, is her ability to open portals to Limbo. These portals allow her to teleport to various places on the screen, allowing for some dangerous mix. But, even more complex, the portals can change the properties on some of her specials as well, allowing her fireball and her flame pillar to hit twice, or turn her Shoryuken anti-air into a full combo, and this also no doubt adds to Magik’s insane mix-up potential.

Of course, the star of the show is Magik’s iconic install ability, Darkchylde. Using this will cause Magik to transform into a half demon state (full demon is reserved for her Ultimate) which enhances all of her specials and will slowly drain her Skill Gauge, exhausting the install when it runs out. The big thing that any fighting game player will notice about Darkchylde is that it allows her to cancel moves on whiff if she has a portal open. On whiff. Basically this means that, once Darkchylde is active, Magik can basically throw out attacks with no care in the world since she can always teleport without threat of being punished for whiffing. Perhaps fittingly, this is going to encourage some absolutely chaotic decision making from Magik players once she enters this state.

If you’re excited for Magik like I am then be sure to free up some room this weekend to enter the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls open beta this weekend from July 24th to July 26th on Playstation 5 and PC through Steam and EGS in preparation for Tokon’s full release on August 6th, 2026. In the meantime, check out some of the other character guides such as the ones released for Peni Parker and Ms. Marvel.
