The Overwatch Summer Games Are Here! With the Return of Lucio Ball and A New Challenge to Win Cosmetics

Summer is here and doesn’t want to leave any time soon, clearly. And with summer, a few games have been making it known and Overwatch is no stranger to this time of year. Since the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Blizzard has added in the Overwatch Summer Games Event as one of their support characters, Lucio, is from Rio and it seemed to be a match made in heaven to line them up and celebrate the heat, vacation time, and the Summer Games. And with the combination of the two, Lucio Ball was also introduced and has been going on for the past three years. And with it being a little earlier than normal, Overwatch decided to bring the heat in the 2019 Summer Games Event:

In a previous developer update, Jeff Kaplan had stated that the Summer Games Event would be heading to Overwatch much earlier than expected, a whole two weeks earlier than expected when compared to the past times its come around. Normally, it would begin early August and stick through the whole month, and be done before September was even a thought. This time though, it’s come early. And with it’s early arrival, some updates to the game and how the event plays outs.

Along with the return of Lucio Ball, and Competitive Lucio Ball, a new way to earn certain skins has arrived. Normally the only way to obtain new skins would be to either get them through a loot box or, if a player had enough in-game currency, purchased. This time, Overwatch brings in a familiar format; the Win, Watch, Earn format that’s shown up for the Baptiste and Ana short story cosmetics. However, instead of including Twitch stream watching time, it’s just Play, Win, Earn. So it only requires players to get in and win a set amount of rounds.

Each week for the next three weeks that the event is live, players can sign in each week and win 9 games in either quick play, competitive, or arcade, and gain an Epic level skin, a spray, and an icon. These skins, sprays, and icons are highlighted in the video in the Overwatch twitter, but below are the winnable epic skins for each week:

The Overwatch Summer Games Event is currently live and goes until August 5. Each week brings in new winnable cosmetics as well as the return to Lucio Ball.
