The Nioh Franchise Has Now Sold More Than 7 Million Units Worldwide

Team Ninja has announced that one of their most popular franchises has achieved a new milestone. The studio revealed that the Nioh series has now shipped more than 7 million units worldwide, which accounts for both physical and digital copies of both Nioh and Nioh 2, as well as the remasters. Considering that this franchise is a mere five years old, this is a very impressive feat, especially when it has been compared a plethora of times to its contemporary, Dark Souls.

The first Nioh was released in 2017, and as we mentioned earlier, was almost immediately looked at as a Dark Souls clone. However, those who dove into the title quickly found some different aspects that set it apart from the From Software counterpart. The most notable variable was that it used Japanese folklore as its base of storytelling, something that continued with the 2020 sequel, Nioh 2. From Software would eventually delve into the Japanese style with their next title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but regardless, the Nioh series found itself a dedicated fan base that is still active today.

For those who have not given the Nioh series a chance, you’ll soon have an opportunity to try it out. Both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of Nioh 2 will be coming to the PlayStation Plus Essential this November as part of the monthly selection of free titles. In short, if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, all you need to do is add the title of your respective console to your library and it’s yours to own and download.
