The New Crazy Taxi Will Be Open-World, Have MMO Elements

Last year during The Game Awards, SEGA officially announced new versions of some of its classic titles including Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi. Now, more details have been revealed about the new Crazy Taxi, with new job listings and a recruitment video sharing more information about what kind of game this new iteration of Crazy Taxi will be.

With its new focus, SEGA has announced that they are ” currently recruiting members for a new title in the Crazy Taxi series with a number of different positions including Game Designer, Level Designer, Character Modeler, Concept Artist, and more.

Multiple job listings describe the new Crazy Taxi as “a new major online title” with an open world, and “massively multiplayer driving game” elements. The recruitment video reveals that this game will be in a large, realistic city based on the United States’ West Coast, with theme park-like map.

The developers say that the team is currently adapting the classic Crazy Taxi gameplay – players transporting passengers to destinations as fast as possible – into a game world with multiple players.

Some are also noting that the Crazy Taxi Reboot may be coming with a variety of different game modes based on the teaser which seems to show a player driving a police car.

Crazy Taxi became popular as an arcade game in 1999. A new level was reached when the home version released the next year in 2000 for the Dreamcast. It became the third best-selling game on the console in the U.S.

There have been several sequels and spin-offs that have been released since then. Crazy Taxi’s last major release was 22 years ago with Crazy Taxi 3: High Roller.
