For fans who’ve journeyed to Middle-earth, a new adventure awaits thee. With the collaboration of NACON and Daedalic Entertainment, fans of The Lord of the Rings series can further venture into Tolkien’s world. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an upcoming story-driven action adventure game that takes place after the events of The Hobbit and prior to The Lord of the Rings.
Gollum is a stoor hobbit who was once formerly known as Sméagol. He put on the One Ring and was corrupted by its power. It manifested this dark personality out of Sméagol. This created the other side of Sméagol, aka Gollum. And in this upcoming title, players will place as Gollum and explore the expansion of Tolkien’s world.
The start of the trailer shows the tutorial of the game. Players will have options of what decisions they would like to make. Depending on the selection, this will affect the personality of Gollum / Sméagol. Each decision will determine which personality becomes dominant. Gollum travels on the mountains by Mordor and is climbing up roots on a cliff. He then has a conversation with his other self in regards to the guards nearby. This triggers a stealth quest and Gollum tells Sméagol to follow behind quietly. You will be able to interreact with the environment around you to que cutscenes and progress in the story such as when Gollum threw a rock at the patrol to get past him. Sméagol then encounters Candle Man and a conversation ensues, demonstrating how the two different personalities will interact with characters in the game.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is scheduled to be released May 23, 2023, on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A Nintendo Switch version will be released later this year.
