The Last of Us: Part II is easily one of the most anticipated games, and with the next PlayStation State of Play, as well as an upcoming media event for the title on the same day, the hype has reached a fever pitch. One of the things we’re looking forward to during either of these events is the inevitable release date. Well it looks like the thunder has been stolen for that particular reveal, as the Swiss retailer Softridge has leaked the game’s possible date; February 28, 2020.
The page was also posted on Resetera, a website/forum known for detailing leaks of this nature. The page also has a brief description of the game’s synopsis, which explains that Ellie, along with Joel, will once again embark on an epic journey together. The features list includes “An intense story driven by strong characters, perfectly orchestrated by the hit studio Naughty Dog” as well as touting Naughty Dog’s motion capture technology which apparently is so good, it’s hard to tell the difference between the game and reality.
As we can see in the image above, it looks like there will be at least three different editions of the game. Aside from the “default” version, we’ll also get the option to buy either the “Special” or the “Collectors” edition. The Special Edition will come with a cool, sleek packaging as opposed to the regular one, styling the Fireflies logo on a white art cover. The Collectors Edition is a giant box with the original art on the front. The contents of both are a complete mystery, and it’s more than likely that the final design with be much different if/when they are revealed.
All of this only helps the rumor from this past Spring where the voice actress for Ellie, Ashley Johnson, nearly leaked the date in an interview before stopping herself and moving on. Since then, Naughty Dog has been very quiet on the subject, so much so that fans were wondering if the game would even come out in a timely manner. This all changed when Geoff Keighly and the company jointly announced the aforementioned media event, and then Sony did the same with the State of Play for the same day. The icing on the cake is that the Creative Director, Neil Druckman, recently tweeted that the game will in fact be a part of the State of Play presentation.
We’ve been silent for too long. It’s time to put an end to that. pic.twitter.com/73BO5O9ZWC

Something’s got to give, and these past few days have shown us that everything is truly building to next week on September 24, Tuesday. If in fact the game’s date is February 28, 2020, that would put it just a few days before Final Fantasy VII Remake, which would make one heck of a week for gaming. As of this writing, the the page on Softridge’s site is still active, so if you wanted to get a sneak peak before the events, here’s your chance.
The Last of Us: Part II will launch exclusively for the PlayStation 4, more than likely in 2020.
