After an almost five month wait since the last one, Sony has announced the third PlayStation State of Play will finally be happening next Tuesday, September 24. The upcoming presentation will be 20 minutes long and focus on “new game reveals, new content from PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios, and a host of other updates.”

There’s plenty that Sony could fill the presentation with. The company will possibly show off some their upcoming Fall lineup. Their biggest titles this Fall include Concrete Genie from PixelOpus which releases on October 8, the remake of the PlayStation classic MediEvil from Other Ocean Interactive which releases on October 25, and, their overall biggest title, Death Stranding from Kojima Productions which they’ve been showcasing a lot lately and releases on November 8.
However, one thing that Sony won’t talk about is the elusive PS5. In the PlayStation Blog post, the company states, “Oh, and it probably bears mentioning: Don’t expect any updates related to our next-gen plans in this episode.” This may be unfortunate news to some who were hopeful to hear about what PlayStation plans to do with the next generation on the horizon.
One thing many are eagerly awaiting is more news on Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated upcoming The Last of Us Part II. Coincidentally, the State of Play event is occurring on the same day that a media event for the game is set to happen. New footage of the game was also shown off at the recent GameStop manager conference, so the company could be revealing that footage publicly. Also, with the game rumored to be coming out in February of next year, it is possibly that everything is lining up for Sony to finally reveal the actual release date for the game.
