Although it’s well over a year old now, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is still going strong in the gaming community, and part of the reason is the studio’s continued support of the game through DLC, a remastered PS4 version and the recent photo contest. Now, Naughty Dog have just put out a new weapons DLC pack and a new patch that, in addition to fixing a number of issues, also includes free multiplayer maps.
The update is detailed in a post on the PlayStation Blog. The patch itself, version 1.03 for the Remastered version and 1.09 for the PS3 one, fixes a number of issues such as matchmaking and microphone problems. More functionality is added to the photo mode, such as the ability to hide characters before snapping a picture, as well as improvements to camera placement.
Most notably are two new maps, included free of charge in the patch. The first one, simply called Beach, takes place on, surprise surprise, a beach. Scattered about are the carcasses of ships and assorted industrial machinery, and the map appears to have both large outdoor areas ideal for snipers as well as underground bunkers where players can slaughter one another under more intimate circumstances.
The second map is called Financial Plaza. This one takes place in the midst of an urban center, with tall buildings, scattered vehicles and tight corners suiting close-ranged players more. Players preferring to attack from a distance can hide in one of the buildings and fire from the windows, although the official trailer for the patch shows that an opponent could easily sneak up on a complacent sniper and stab him in the back.
Alongside this new patch is the Scoped Weapons Bundle, which comes with four new firearms with telescopic sights mounted on them. These appear to be a mixture of shotguns, rifles and marksman rifles, and players who exclusively use a specific type of firearm can purchase these guns separately for a dollar. The full pack is $2.99.
