The PlayStation 4-exclusive version of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, subtitled Remastered, came packaged with an in-game photo mode with more detail and functionality than some games. As of August 15, Naughty Dog have launched a contest to see which of their fans can produce the best looking screenshot from the game using this photo mode.
In a blog post, the developers explained that they got the idea for the contest after seeing the explosion of user-generated screenshots of The Last of Us Remastered, all using photo mode:
You may have seen Grant Voegtle’s amazing The Last of Us trailer that was created entirely using Photo Mode. We’ve also seen a steady stream of great Photo Mode shots fill up our Twitter feed, and that’s just scratching the surface of what is being shared on a daily basis.
As a result, Naughty Dog are hosting this contest to see who can come up with the most enticing image from the game. Prizes include poster-sized images of winning photos autographed by the studio, a statuette of protagonists Joel and Ellie that was previously only available in The Last of Us Post Pandemic Edition, and a digital copy of Dark Horse’s The Art of The Last of Us.
The contest will conclude on September 5 at 11:59 PM PST. Applicants are required to follow Naughty Dog on Twitter, submit their image using the hashtag #TLOUPhotoModeContest, and specify in their tweet whether their image fits in the categories of Environmental, Action, or Character.
The contest is restricted to legal residents of the United States, excluding Arizona for unspecified legal reasons. European players won’t be left out in the cold, either, as the PlayStation branch over there will be running its own photo contest in a few weeks.
The Last of Us Remastered‘s photo mode, which can be activated during gameplay with the L3 button, features a variety of features. These include the ability to rotate and tilt the camera, adjusting depth of field, and selecting from a number of different filters and photo frames.
