The House of the Dead: Remake Releases for the Nintendo Switch in April

Forever Entertainment has released a new trailer and announced on Twitter that Sega’s The House of the Dead: Remake will release on April 7th, with pre-orders starting on March 31st. The game was initially planned to release some time last year but eventually got delayed for Spring 2022 with no news on a specific release date until now.

According to the trailer’s description, The House of the Dead: Remake will include updated graphics and controls while keeping its iconic arcade feel. The remake will also stay true to the original gameplay, which features light gun controls. Additionally, the game will include:

  • Local 2-player multiplayer, multiple endings.
  • Photo mode.
  • Achievements.
  • An armory with unlockable weapons.
  • Hordes of undead monsters in a new game mode.
  • A gallery with encountered enemies and bosses.

Players can also expect physical copies for The House of the Dead: Remake since Forever Entertainment and Microids reached a distribution agreement back in July. In press release, Microids assured fans that they could expect retail versions and collector’s editions for The House of the Dead: Remake. So far, there hasn’t been much news regarding when the physical editions will be available, but hopefully more information will be revealed as the game’s release date gets closer.

The House of the Dead: Remake was officially announced for the Nintendo Switch in Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase last April. However, the remake was confirmed back in 2019 by Forever Entertainment, where the Polish publisher announced on Twitter that they’d acquired a deal for The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead 2. Forever Entertainment has previously worked with Sega to remake classic Sega Saturn games for modern technology and audiences like Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei.

There’s also no news yet on whether the game will be released on other platforms. However, The House of the Dead: Remake’s ESRB rating shows Stadia as a platform for the game, suggesting that it could be in the works.
