The Heroes of the Storm Global Championship, or the HGC, is the biggest Heroes of the Storm tournament series for the game at the moment. In this tournament series, HotS teams from all around the world participate in their own leagues, and if they do well enough, they are able to participate in events that can net the team even more money from winning. Next weekend, select teams from both the European and North American HotS circuits will be duking it out in the Western Clash series for their chance to claim not only the 1st place cash prize, but to also have the bragging rights of being the current strongest team of the West and an extra regional slot during the HGC finals.
The HGC tournament will have eight participating teams: four from NA and four from EU. Those teams have been selected out of the top four teams of their respective Week 1 – 5 league play performances. Those top teams that qualified for this event are the following:
- HeroesHearth Esports (NA)
- Tempo Storm (NA)
- Team Freedom (NA)
- Team Octalysis (NA)
- Team Dignitas (EU)
- Method (EU)
- Team Liquid (EU)
- Leftovers (EU)
This league play is similar to that of the Overwatch League, in that teams play in phases, where they face off against each other, and the top contenders fight at the end of the phase for a cash prize. What is different, however, is that each league is separated by region, so the only way for teams to compete with other regions is to perform well enough to secure a spot in these types of regional clashes. What is even more important is that the winner of this series will unlock an extra regional qualifier slot for the HGC finals, which will be played during BlizzCon 2018.
The Heroes of the Storm Global Championship will begin on Friday, August 10 at 9AM, and the tournament will have its Grand Finals around 6PM on August 12. Even more exciting is that this will all be taking place in LA at the Blizzard Arena. You can watch all of the action for this tournament over at the official Heroes of the Storm Twitch channel.
