The Girl and The Robot is an upcoming third person action adventure game developed by Flying Carpet Games. Flying Carpet Games has announced that the release date for Version 1.0 of The Girl and The Robot will be August 18, 2016. This version will be released for PC via Steam. The Steam page for The Girl and The Robot is currently up and can be visited here. The launch trailer that was released for The Girl and The Robot earlier this summer can be viewed below.
The Girl and The Robot revolves around “advanced gameplay mechanics” that allow the player to control the two titular characters. Through the use of both characters the player can solve puzzles and partake in combat. The main point of the game is to escape a castle controlled by an evil queen. “The Girl” finds “The Robot”, that she has the ability to control remotely. As the player progresses through the game more and more of the story and the background for the characters is revealed as they face these challenges together. The backstory is revealed mostly through the environment and the mark that the events prior to the game left on it. As far as aesthetics are concerned the game is going for what they call a “fairy tale” art style. According to The Girl and The Robot’s Steam page, this aesthetic is achieved through a “unique hand painted art style.” This art style does invoke a similar feeling to the illustrations often found in old children’s books, particularly publications of fairy tales.
The Girl and The Robot will also be getting a release date for the PlayStation 4 and Wii U, but set release dates for these versions have not yet been announced. More information is going to be coming about these console releases later this year but for now the game is going to only be playable through Steam for the PC.
