The Game Awards 2023: Black Myth: Wukong Receives Release Date

The upcoming action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong received a release date during The Game Awards 2023.

Black Myth: Wukong had its first trailer way back in 2020. Since then, developer Game Science released updates on the game’s progress every August 20. This year’s update was quite exciting, as over a thousand players in China were invited to play a 45-minute demo in Hangzhou, China. Consisting of three boss fights to test out the combat mechanics, the game had certainly made steps toward a full release. Originally given the general estimate of “mid-2024,” The Game Awards announced Black Myth: Wukong will finally be released on the same day where it all began: August 20, 2024.

In Black Myth: Wukong, players control “The Destined One”, a human-like monkey based off of Sun Wukong, also known “The Monkey King”, a character in the 1592 Chinese fantasy novel Journey to the West, the game’s main inspiration. Although the game is based off of an ancient story, it is not necessary to be familiar with it to fully appreciate the Souls-like gameplay or gorgeous graphics.

The Destined One is on a journey of his own, fighting through swarms of enemies, boss fights against unusual creatures like the horrific Centipede Guai, and sharpening his ability to turn into a flying insect or massive monster. The Destined One Players will be able to gain and master spells as they level up as well.

The game, developed on Unreal Engine 5, is set for release on August 20, 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows. It is currently available to wishlist on Steam.
