Once again, The Game Awards was one of the most watched events of the year. Geoff Keighly and company put together another excellent awards show to close out the year of 2022 in video gaming. For the ninth year in a row, The Game Awards managed to set another viewership record. According to Keighly, 103 million viewers tuned into watch The Game Awards 2022 across 30 different streaming platforms, an insane statistic for a show that started only nine years ago in 2014.

This also marks a 21% viewership increase from the previous year which had 85 million livestreams. Viewership peaked on YouTube at approximately 1.3 million, with roughly 603,000 coming from the main Game Awards channel itself. Twitch showed 1.9 million concurrent users across the whole platform, with 571,000 watching it on the main channel for The Game Awards. However, the real winner in terms of numbers was Steam, which had 9.5 million viewers watching the show. This was more than likely due to the Steam Deck giveaway promotion that was being held during the show, which garnered a plethora of eyeballs to the show, only helping that new number in the process.
Viewers also checked out the event on other platforms such as Tik Tok, Instagram, other livestreamers, and even certain IMAX theaters around the world. As we already mentioned, The Game Awards 2022 was one of the most talked about events of the year. This was due to the massive amount of reveals and awards that took place, but some more interesting situations took place that night. This includes the Al Pacino/Christopher Judge moment at the beginning, and the stage crasher at the end when Elden Ring won Game of the Year. It was an interesting night to say the least. They also announced a special live concert to celebrate the events 10 year anniversary, which will take place at the Hollywood Bowl on June 25, 2023.
