The Game Awards 2020 Nominees Revealed

Today, Geoff Keighley and the organizers of The Game Awards have released and announced the nominees for this year’s show. The Last of Us Part II, Hades, Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Doom Eternal, and more headline this year’s selection of nominated titles. The Game Awards 2020 takes place on December 10, 2020, across the world. This year is a little different as the event will take place virtually in multiple cities – Los Angeles, Tokyo, and London. The three host cities will be digitally connected for an innovative celebration with live award presentations, musical performances, and spectacular world premiere game announcements.

“This has of course been a challenging year for all of us,” said Geoff Keighley. “But despite so many obstacles, talented developers have comforted and entertained us with amazing games that show more than ever why video games are the most powerful form of entertainment.” The full list of nominees can be found below.

Innovation in Accessibility is a new category for The Game Awards. It recognizes software and/or hardware that is pushing the medium forward by adding features, technology, and content to help games be played and enjoyed by an even wider audience. Nominees include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Grounded, Hyperdot, The Last of Us Part II, and Watch Dogs Legion. Nominated for Best VR/AR are Dreams, Half-Life: Alyx, Marvel’s Iron Man VR, Star Wars: Squadrons, and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

Alongside The Last of Us Part II, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons are the nominees for Game of the Year. Nominated for Best Game Direction are Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, Half-Life: Alyx, and The Last of Us Part II.

The games nominated for Best Narrative include 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, The Last of Us Part II. Best Art Direction nominees are Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, Ori and The Will of The Wisps, and The Last of Us Part II.

In the Best Score and Music category, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Hades, Ori and The Will of the Wisps, The Last of Us Part II. 

Best Audio Design nominated games include Doom Eternal, Half-Life Alyx, Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3, The Last of Us Part II. 

The actors and actresses nominated for Best Performance are Ashley Johnson as Ellie and Laura Bailey as Abby in The Last of Us Part II, Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai in Ghost of Tsushima, Logan Cunningham as Hades in Hades, and Nadji Jeter as Miles Morales in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Titles nominated in the Games For Impact category are If Found…, Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition, Spiritfarer, Tell Me Why, and Through The Darkest of Times. Best Ongoing Games nominees include Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite, No Man’s Sky.

Nominated for the Best Indie category are CarrionFall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Hades, Spelunky 2, and Spiritfarer.

Among Us, Call of Duty: Mobile, Genshin Impact, Legends of Runeterra, and Pokemon Cafe Mix were nominated for Best Mobile Game.

Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout, Fortnite, No Man’s Sky, and Valorant are all nominated for Best Community Support recognizing a game for outstanding community support, transparency, and responsiveness, inclusive of social media activity and game updates/patches.

Doom Eternal, Hades, Half-Life: Alyx, Nioh 2, and Streets of Rage 4 are nominated in the Best Action category for the best game in the action genre-focused primarily on combat.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ori and The Will of The Wisps, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and The Last of Us Part II are nominated for Best Action/Adventure.

The games nominated in the Best Role-Playing category include Final Fantasy VII: Remake, Genshin Impact, Persona 5 Royal, Wasteland 3, and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. 

For Best Fighting, the games nominated are Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows, and Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[CL-R].

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, Minecraft Dungeons, and Paper Mario: The Origami King are the nominees in the Best Family category.

In the Best Sim/Strategy category, Crusader Kings III, Desperados III, Gears Tactics, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and XCOM: Chimera Squad are the nominees.

Dirt 5, F1 2020, FIFA 21, NBA 2K21, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 are nominated in Best Sports/Racing.

Games nominated for Best Multiplayer include Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Among Us, Call of Duty: Warzone, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, and Valorant. 

Best Debut Game nominees include Carrion, Mortal Shell, Raji: An Ancient Epic, Roki, and Phasmophobia.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Fortnite, League of Legends, and Valorant are all up for the Best Esports Game.

Alanah Pearce, Jay Ann Lopez, NICKMERCS, TimTheTatMan, and Valkyrae are nominated for Content Creator Of The Year.

Best Esports Athlete nominees include Ian “Crimsix” Porter, Heo “Showmaker” Su, Kim “Canyon” Geon-Bu, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro, and Mathieu “Zywoo” Herbaut.

Danny “Zonic” Sorensen, Dae-Hee “Crusty” Park, Fabian “Grabbz” Lohmann, Lee “Zefa” Jae-Min, and Raymond “Rambo” Lussier are nominated for Best Esports Coach.

Best Esports Host nominees include Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez, Alex “Machine” Richardson, Effje “Sjokz” Depoortere, James “Dash” Patterson, and Jorien “Sheever” Van Der Heijden.

Damwon Gaming, Dallas Empire, G2 Esports, San Francisco Shock, and Team Secret are all nominated for Best Esports Team.

Nominated for Best Esports Event are Blast Premier: Spring 2020 European Finals, Call of Duty League Championship 2020, IEM Katowice 2020, League of Legends World Championship 2020, and Overwatch League Grand Finals 2020.
