The Future Of Apex Legends Detailed By Respawn Entertainment

Respawn Entertainment has provided some new details concerning the future of Apex Legends. They go through some of the issues that they plan to prioritize, how new seasons will function, and Respawn has shared that first details about Season 2 of Apex Legends will be revealed at EA Play next month.

Drew McCoy, Executive Producer on Apex Legends detailed how crazy the journey has been since the game launched; “To say that the launch of Apex Legends exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. 50 million players in the first month (and more since) is staggering for any game, let alone a new IP from a relatively small team who were taking their first swing at a free-to-play game.”

Drew went on to say how the rapid growth of the game caused some challenges and how Respawn has made some mistakes during the course of the launch up to now. Then, Drew discussed the future of the game: “We are 100% committed to the long-term growth of Apex Legends, and supporting the millions playing every day. So today, we want to reset our commitment to you and give you some insight into where we are as a development team and how we’re approaching live service for Apex Legends“.

There are several things that Respawn is critical about prioritizing. Those include slow server performance at the beginning of a match, audio issues, cheaters, and hit registration issues.

New Seasons of Apex Legends “will start big with a new Battle Pass, a new Legend, something new for the meta, and more.” Respawn will also continue to address exploits, necessary balance changes, bug fixes, and small features throughout each season.

Drew McCoy said “we believe strongly in the importance of large, meaningful changes to the game that have lasting impact, thus our focus on a seasonal release cadence we laid out at launch. We will continue to follow this cadence in the future”.

Respawn is also wanting to improve the communication with the community by providing more visibility into the future by being more transparent on updates.

The first step in improved communication comes with details on Season 2 of the game which will get first details at EA Play next month during E3. “For Season 2 you can expect a Battle Pass with more meaningful content, the introduction of a new Legend, the debut of a new weapon… and you didn’t expect Kings Canyon to stay the same forever, did you”?

During their latest earnings call, EA revealed that they are in “advanced negotiations” to bring Apex Legends to mobile devices and China. Both Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds have mobile versions as well.
