Seemingly out of nowhere, the original No More Heroes has been rated for the Nintendo Switch in Taiwan. The rating was spotted by Gematsu and subsequently posted all over Twitter and the internet. Neither Nintendo nor Marvelous have commented on this, but since the majority of the games that end up being rated by anyone outside of the ESRB end up being real, it’s definitely possibility that we’ll see the first game in the franchise get a proper Switch port. In fact, with No More Heroes III coming eventually, this would be the perfect time to do so.
For those who don’t know, the first No More Heroes launched for the Nintendo Wii back in 2007 for Japan, and then 2008 for other regions. The game features the”hero” Travis Touchdown, an Anime Otaku who takes up the Beam Katana in order to become the world’s best assassin. The game included an open world aspect, albeit with limitations, and some side quests to earn more points and money. While it wasn’t necessarily a game for everyone, it obtained a cult fanbase over time and became one of the stalwart titles for the Nintendo Wii.
The game received a sequel in 2010, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, which some consider to be major upgrade over the original. The gameplay mechanics were improved upon greatly, the open world was taken out completely, and some of the mundane side quests were removed in favor of unique 8-bit mini-games. Meanwhile, the first game was ported to the PlayStation 3 being re-branded as No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise. The port included some new bosses that came from No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, and also featured support for the PlayStation Move.
While we did get the recent Nintendo Direct Mini, it’s been a while since we’ve heard about some of their other titles, including No More Heroes III. As we head towards the end of the Summer, hopefully, Nintendo will address any rumors and release dates, because if we can get our hands on the first No More Heroes for the Switch, then that alone is something to be excited about.
