The Final Season of The Walking Dead Launches Today

In April of 2012, gamers followed the journey of Lee Everett as he desperately tried to survive the fallout of a zombie apocalypse, all the while caring for a little girl named Clementine. Six years later, with over 50 million episodes sold worldwide and more than 100 Game of the Year Awards from prominent news outlets, The Walking Dead franchise is entering its final season, and it looks to be the most engrossing one yet.

In the final entry of Telltale Games and Skybound Entertainment’s revolutionary graphic adventure series, the story has come full circle. Clementine, now an independent and capable survivor, must fight to establish a school sanctuary as a viable home. Along for the ride is AJ, the little orphan boy she must care for; this is a distinct parallel with her childhood days and a callback to the series’ humble beginnings.

Just like before, players will determine the choices that will come to define Clementine’s relationships, and all the consequences they entail. The climactic ending to her story that gamers have been following for all these years will undoubtedly prove to be the most gripping and intense one yet. Similar to Lee before her, Clementine must now play the role of mentor as AJ reflects upon her every move.

From a gameplay perspective, Telltale has implemented a new camera system that allows for more freedom of exploration and a more liberating over-the-shoulder view. Unscripted combat has also been integrated to simulate a more tense experience as the tightrope between life and death becomes all the more unstable. A refreshed visual system appropriately accompanies the last act, a new 4K HDR supported Graphic Black art style that gloriously animates the comic book pages and brings them to life. The global phenomenon will be fully dubbed in a variety of European languages, while translated subtitle packs are available for download in a multitude of languages as well.

Episode One of the final chapter, “Done Running”, will be released today, and will introduce brand new characters, mechanics, and visuals right off the bat for full immersion. The Final Season is available across all regions today for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, while the Nintendo Switch version is only available in North America for now (later this month for all other regions).
