Bethesda has released a terrifying new game trailer for The Evil Within, the upcoming survival horror game being made by Tango Gameworks and one of the incredible and disturbing minds behind Resident Evil, Director Shinji Mikami. Spoilers: it will give you chills.
The trailer features a handful of locations while previous screenshots and trailers have primarily featured the Butcher’s Lair, the setting of most hands-on demos within the first level. Here, things run a bit differently. A police dispatch call. A creaking door. A burning ambulance. A sacrificed goat. And that’s just the first 30 seconds. Toss in some characters from your deepest, darkest nightmares combined with some psychological terrors and you’ve got yourself a fraction of The Evil Within. Check out the bone-chilling trailer in its entirety below.
Was that a crouching figure with a time-warp hole where its face should be? What’s going on in that sunflower field? A blood flood? Who installs a rotating-blade massacre hallway? Did that guy have a CHAINED SAFE for a head? The question “am I going crazy” is posed; I know I certainly am.
The Evil Within is set for release in North America on August 26 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC. That gives us all plenty of time to grab our safety blankets and hide under the covers.
For those unfamiliar, the game will follow Detective Sebastian Castellanos who is sent to investigate the scene of a gruesome mass murder along with his partners Joseph Oda and Julie “Kid” Kidman at, where else, a mental hospital. This wouldn’t be much of a horror game if the three investigated the murders together, so naturally Oda and Kidman are both horribly massacred.
Sebastian, as you saw in the new trailer, awakens to find himself without backup, but definitely not alone. He must brave his way through the frightening mysteries of the Beacon Mental Hospital as he encounters a range of evil and disgusting monstrosities in an attempt to understand what is happening and most importantly, survive.
And in case you missed it, here is the first trailer that dropped last year.
