The Escapists is a popular franchise that has been published Team 17 and earlier today they revealed a new installment to the series The Escapists 3. The first title was initially released February 2015 and developed by Mouldy Toof Studios. It earned positive reviews for how fun and challenging the game was, including the various ways that players could plan their prison break.
In The Escapists 2, players got to enjoy the multiplayer feature added to the game along with a festive Christmas themed update. It was released back in August 2017 with 11 prisons for players to break out of solo or with a team.
The reveal trailer for the latest installment showcases a shift from the franchise’s usual pixel graphics style to a 3D one. Gameplay features the same mechanics that players know and love, learning the routines of those around them and studying the prison guards. There are jobs players can take to earn cash and a variety of ways for players to plan their escape.
Players can choose what weak points to exploit within the prison. They can dig underneath walls, find areas to climb out, or even take to the skies with gliders. However, getting out of the perimeter is only one part of the problem as players may still be chased down by guards and spotlights.
The Escapists 3 features five prisons with unique routines, characters, and secrets to uncover. Beyond the walls, players may find themselves escaping into dense forests, gusty canyons, ancient catacombs, or traveling across dangerous waters. Similar to the second installment, this title also includes a multiplayer feature so that players may gather a team of friends to plan their grand escape. Multiplayer can be done with a two player split-screen feature or online to have a full party of four.
Team 17 plans on releasing the game in 2027, though no set date has been confirmed. Returning players and new fans interested in testing their escapist skills can wishlist the game via Steam starting today.
