The Division Open Beta Draws 6.4 Million Users

The open beta for Ubisoft’s newest title, The Division, ran over the weekend and was closed today. With all said and done, the company announced in victorious post that nearly 6.4 millions players tested the game, making it “the biggest beta ever for a new game brand on current generation platforms.” A closed beta previously ran for pre-orders and those lucky to get off the waitlist at the end of January.

According to their website, players spent an average of 5 hours testing the streets of New York City, with nearly half their time spent in “the Dark Zone,” a PVP area within the game. 50% of all players went Rogue within the zone, and over “63,309,800 contaminated items” were taken out of the Zone.

The beta started on February 18 for Xbox players, and February 19 for PC and PS4 users. While players were able to reach level 8 in normal play, and level 12 in the Dark Zone, their progress won’t carry over – similar to the Star Wars: Battlefront open beta.

The game officially launches on March 8 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft has plans in place for 3 paid expansions of the game – the first will allow players to explore NYC’s underground, the second will feature some kind of survival-based game play, and there are no details yet regarding the third. These come included in the season pass, which also features exclusive gear and “unique monthly content drops and events.”
