The Count is Down for Blood: Where Gothic Meets Puzzle Games

The Count is Down for Blood is a grid-based puzzle game with pixel graphics and a gothic style to fit the vampiric theme. The main goal of the game is to maneuver the vampire across the grid and safely back into their coffin before sunrise. However, each move players make brings the sunrise closer.

Players must make every move and action count while avoiding various obstacles such as deadly traps. There are enemies for players to beware off as well, hunters and ghosts, but they do have supernatural powers to help them face their foes. Vampiric powers include transforming into a bat, teleporting, and hypnotizing their enemies.

However, using their powers comes at the cost of blood. Powerful vampiric abilities require more blood to be cast and players can obtain more by draining humans. It is a tool and resource. Players must keep track of their blood supply as wasting too much blood can leave them trapped on a level.

The developers, Righteous Tree, have also decided to use a different tutorial approach than in the tradition sense, where block of texts explain mechanics to the players. Instead, as they progress through the level, new mechanics will be revealed and learned. It more of a hands-on approach.

Earlier this morning, Righteous Tree posted the official reveal trailer for the game. The trailer highlights the various vampiric abilities in action along with various level set-ups. One of the mechanic reveals the ghost, which will travel down a path and potentially block the player’s progression.

The Count is Down for Blood is set to come out sometime in November 2026. It can be wishlisted now via Steam for players interested in putting their puzzle skills to the test. The game will also feature optional levels that are harder to complete, created for those interested in mastering each chapter.
