In a new sneak peek of the horror game, Texas Chain Saw Massacre unveils the release date to be August 18. The asymmetrical game is an adaptation of the 1974 horror movie and the game style is similar to Dead by Daylight. Unlike DBD, Texas Chain Saw Massacre offers a 3v4 playstyle. The killers are the Cook, Hitchhiker, Sissy, Leather Face, and Johnny, and together they are called the Slaughter Family.
Each killer from the Slaughter Family has their own abilities. The Cook has the Seek ability which allows him to narrow down on noise to focus and reveal the location of where the noise has been detected. Sissy has an ability called Bane which allows her to craft potions and use them against the victims around the map. Hitchhiker has the ability to set traps around the map and if a victim gets trapped, it alerts him. Johnny has the Hunt ability which allows him to pick up on tracks that the victims leave. Lastly, Leatherface has the Maim ability which allows him to dismember victims with his saw.
Ronnie Hobbs, the Creative Director, in an interview states how the experience has been. “Now, nearly 50 years after the films’ release, the fact that myself, along with my colleagues at Gun Interactive and Sumo Digital Nottingham, are tasked with creating a proper video game based on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is surreal to say the least. This will be the first licensed game since 1983. And for a whole new generation, it will be their entry into the horror and macabre that left an impression on me so many years ago. To say this is an honor would be an understatement.”
In a previous game adaptation from Gun Interactive, Friday the 13th resulted in the game being forced to be effectively abandoned due to a legal battle over the rights from the original writer of the movie. Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be released on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and 5, Steam, and the Microsoft Store. The technical test will only be on Steam and will be released on May 25.
