Fighting games are often kept alive by their companies through the introduction of new and exciting characters. For a series as popular as Tekken, it is no surprise that with each season, additional characters are added to the roster that introduce new moves and combos. The latest character is Kunimitsu, the Season 3 Enchanted Thief. She just received a new gameplay trailer breaking down elements of her story and move set while teasing her upcoming release.
The trailer opens with Kunimitsu appearing in a pillar of fire and declaring her mastery of evolved ninjitsu arts. It then jumps straight into how she plays, showing off her combat with the preexisting characters who all struggle to catch her. This, combined with her use of small and precise weaponry, help her live up to her title of thief. In addition of standard punches, kicks, and stabs, Kunimitsu is also able to burst into a purple cloud and reappear later, which she can use to avoid attacks or reposition and continue a combo.
The trailer also reveals some of Kunimitsu’s personality. As a returning character from Tekken 7, she had a rich backstory as an undercover agent within a school, which the trailer makes note of with her position in the student council. The trailer ends with a climactic fight against Raven, a character who trained under Kunimitsu’s father. During the fight her more powerful attack is revealed, where she separates her sword into nine blades to strike the foe, finishing the attack with a close-up stab.
New characters offer new ways the play the game for some while also expanding the possible match ups for others. The aggression and agility the trailer has shown Kunimitsu is capable of has excited many fans already. The character will be available in early access on May 27th and release officially on June 1st.
